Social Language Learning with Livemocha

LivemochaOver 4 million registered members have taken Livemocha.com for a test drive. Livemocha is a social language learning web site that offers tools similar to the popular Rosetta Stone language learning system. Livemocha combines language learning tools with the power of social media communication. Featuring as many as 36 different languages and over 160 hours of language lessons, members can take advantage of a growing international community of linguistic exchange.  Membership to the web site is free and basic courses are also free.  The lessons include ways for native speakers in the Livemocha community to give you feedback and tips for improvement. In return, you are asked to also provide feedback to others and receive mochapoints.

The self-paced lessons are comprehensive and the directions are easy to follow.  The socially enhanced language learning experience is very powerful. Learners practice and submit recorded exercises in hopes of feedback from native speakers in the community. Feedback responses are almost immediate and, in most cases, extremely helpful.

The experience also allows members to connect to Livemocha via existing social networks, such as Facebook. Overall, this application is more than just a language learning tool, it is a connection learning tool where the power of social networking goes a step beyond content exchange and delivery. Engagement and digital language immersion provide the real learning experience.
