In Blackboard Learn there are three kinds of deleted students. This is not handled the same way it was in Vista.
_ “Unenroll” – this deletes the student completely, including all the student’s work. Not recommended, as there is no record of the student in the class.
- “Make Inactive”-This is something the instructor can do in a course and is intended to be a temporary measure. The student still appears in the full grade center, but with a read “X” beside the student’s name.
- “Disable the Student” – This completely removes the student from the grade center so the instructor now longer sees the name, but student work remains in the course. If a student changes their mind and joins the course again, the student can pick back up with no loss of previous work.
We used to make students who dropped the course “inactive”, but that wasn’t popular as the student still appeared in the grade book and class stats were thrown off because it included grades for these students. And, they were still included in auto assignments for groups.
Now we disable the student. The only issue is if they had items that needed grading they would still show up under “needs grading”. There is a proposed patch from Blackboard that fixes that issue.
