Reflections on Teaching and Learning

Blackboard Learn Improves the User Interface

Blackboard Learn allows greater ease of use through new features that give more flexibility to instructors. The Edit Mode button allows you to change the view of content on the screen and see how the student will view the page. This replaces the previous Student view tab in Blackboard Vista. In addition, in place of the previous Build and Teach tabs, you simply have to turn Edit Mode on and off to develop class content and activities.

Drag and drop is a popular added feature that allows the instructor to reorder content area elements and course menu items by simply clicking on and dragging items to a new location. An instructor may also move content to the Content Collection area, selecting, then dragging them in the Content Collection. This makes moving content into Learn much faster than before. The Content Collection area may be used to hold content needed for one course or many courses.

Back buttons in the browser now work in Blackboard Learn. For even greater ease in moving through the course, there is a “Breadcrumb” trail, a display of the navigated path, which appears at the top of pages and provides clickable links to move back to previous pages.

Banners may be uploaded at the top of the homepage for the course as well as any module page.
