With the announcement of new Kindle devices, and a commitment to reaching all major platforms, Amazon has released a bold prediction stating that by the end of 2011 they will see the balance of digital vs. paper books shift in favor of their Kindle eBooks. As previously reported, Amazon Kindle books have only recently started outselling hardback sales this month at a ratio of 180 ebooks for every 100 hardcovers.

“Q: Amazon is selling more Kindle e-books than hardcover books. When will you pass paperbacks?

A: I predict we will surpass paperback sales sometime in the next nine to 12 months. Sometime after that, we’ll surpass the combination of paperback and hardcover. It stuns me. People forget that Kindle is only 33 months old.” - Jeff Bezos

We’ve been keeping a close eye on the eBook and eTextbook market over the past few months, and have been documenting our experience in exploring eTextbook platforms. Today’s news has us extremely interested in your opinion; Is the market for Kindle and eBooks in general going to keep going strong, or will we see it start to decline?
